MD Student Found With Loaded Handgun Charged By Police

Police arrested a 17-year-old student at Walter Johnson High School student and charged him as an adult for possession of a firearm.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County police arrested a 17-year-old student at Walter Johnson High School student on Monday and charged him as an adult for possession of a firearm.

The student, a Bethesda resident, was arrested after a witness reported to school security that he had a gun, according to police. After the report, Montgomery County Public Schools security located the student, searched him and found a loaded 9 mm handgun.

At about 1:30 p.m., police officers went to Walter Johnson High School, in the 6400 block of Rock Spring Drive, and arrested the student.

The student was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he awaits a bond hearing. He has been charged with underage possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded handgun and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property, police said.
