BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County officials are holding a virtual public meeting on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 15 to discuss plans to reduce Tuckerman Lane in Bethesda to one lane in both directions as part of a “road diet project.”

The one-year pilot project would a reduce a 1.17-mile segment of Tuckerman Lane from four lanes to two lanes to shorten the pedestrian and bicycle crossing at the Bethesda Trolley Trail, according to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.

Between Old Georgetown Road and Rockville Pike on Tuckerman Lane, the Department of Transportation will use flexible posts to close motor vehicle access to the rightmost lanes in both directions.

At the end of the one-year pilot period, the county will decide whether to make the lane reductions permanent or restored them to their current configuration.
