North Bethesda Crash Kills Two After Police Traffic Stop
MOCO Police say an officer pulled a car over for a traffic violation, but the car sped away and lost control, crashing into a tree.
BETHESDA, MD — Two people were killed in a a car crash early Saturday near the intersection of Randolph Road and Connecticut Avenue, Montgomery County Police said.
Around 1:30 a.m. a Montgomery County Police officer pulled over a 2011 Honda Civic near Route 355 and Nicholson Lane for a traffic violation, an MCP release says. As the officer walked up to the car, the driver drove away. The officer followed on Randolph Road, suspecting that the driver of the Honda was driving drunk or high, the news release says.
The Honda's driver lost control of the car and crash into fence and tree, the news release says. The driver was declared dead at the scene and her passenger was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the officer's car did not collide with the Honda and was not involved in the crash.
The Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is investigating.
