Overnight Lane Closures To Begin On Rockville Pike
BRAC-related roadwork will affect a quarter mile of the Pike near the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Beginning Monday night, BRAC-related work will prompt overnight lane closures on the Rockville Pike between Jones Bridge Road and Cedar Lane, according to a Maryland State Highway Administration press release.
The work is in preparation for a major intersection improvement project at Cedar Lane and the Rockville Pike, according to SHA. A host of transportation upgrades are planned around the in order to ease the local impact of the federally-mandated Base Realignment and Closure process, which drew 2,500 new employees to the military hospital last year and is expected to nearly double the amount of annual visitors to one million.
Up to two lanes of northbound Rockville Pike near the military hospital will be closed weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. On the northbound side, single lane closures will begin at 8 p.m., and double lane closures will begin at 10 p.m.

Southbound lane closures will affect one lane between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The work will affect about a quarter mile of the Pike between Jones Bridge Road and Cedar Lane, and will include "testing, removing and installing sections of underground pipe, elevating and installing manholes, and pouring and curing concrete pads within the work zone," according to SHA.

Some of the work will require noisy equipment including jackhammers. It's expected to be complete by late spring.
on southbound Rockville Pike are also in effect through at least mid-May, along with the through late April.
