PGA Tour: Locals Selling Driveway, Yard Spots for Parking Near Congressional

Neal Gillen has lived at his house on River Road, just a short walk from the main gates of Congressional Country Club, for 42 years.

For the last three, he's sold parking spots in his spacious front yard for $20 a piece when the golf world converges on Bethesda, MD.

Gillen would not disclose how much money he makes during a tournament week, but said he had to pay a $700 fee to the county for shuttle service. Customers parking in his yard have to walk approximately a mile and a half to Connelly School of the Holy Child to catch a fan shuttle to the proper course entrance at the AT&T National.

"It's just not managed properly," Gillen said. "People don't want to drive from Gaithersburg and then have to walk to and get on a bus."
