BETHESDA, MD — Authorities are investigating recent reports of mail theft from United States Postal Services boxes in Bethesda and Silver Spring.

Suspects have targeted outdoor collection boxes and are looking for outgoing checks, Montgomery County Police said in a message shared on its Twitter account.

Offices are recommending that residents use indoor collection boxes and avoid dropping mail in the blue boxes outside of the post office.
