Silver And Sons BBQ's 1st Brick-And-Mortar Location Set To Open

Silver and Sons BBQ, a popular food truck in Montgomery County, is about to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant.

BETHESDA, MD — Silver and Sons BBQ, a food truck and catering operation owned by Chef Jarrad Silver, will open a brick-and-mortar location in Bethesda on Jan. 24, the business said.

The food truck serves a Jewish and Mediterranean form of regional American barbeque from outside the site of the restaurant at 5362 Westbard Ave. in the Westbard Square development.

The restaurant will be an 800-square-foot space that offers carryout service and a standing counter accommodating up to four to six diners. The opening allows Silver to enhance his menu and reach with a new selection of sandwiches, sides, and desserts that greatly expand on what has been available from the mobile operation.

"This opening represents a culmination of everything we've been working toward since launching Silver and Sons Barbecue," Silver said in a news reldase. "At Westbard Square, we'll be able to explore the boundaries of what barbecue can be while honoring its roots. Every dish reflects our commitment to creativity and tradition, from the short rib pastrami and pulled lamb shoulder to the chocolate babka buns."

Silver and Sons BBQ has been serving short rib pastrami and other smoked specialties from its food truck. The food truck's schedule for Bethesda, Kensington and other sites in the suburbs can be found online.

The Menu

Signature items popular with food truck fans, such as Short Rib Pastrami, Prime Brisket, Pulled Lamb Shoulder, Smoked Turkey Breast, and Pastrami-Spiced Mushrooms, anchor the menu while leaving room for creative specials and items only available in the restaurant.

Lunch at the Westbard Square location introduces a new concept for Silver and Sons: a sandwich counter. Guests can enjoy new offerings like the Brisket Steak and Cheese, layered with gruyère and fried chicken skin on a sourdough challah hoagie, or the vegetarian Falafel Sandwich, with Israeli salad, pepper relish, tahini, and amba. A pastrami reuben is served on house-made sourdough rye, while another is stuffed with wagyu beef cheeks that have been smoked and finished in rendered beef tallow. A classic smoked turkey breast sandwich with thin, deli-style slices is served with sprouted grains. These new additions join classic sides like Lemon Schmaltz Potatoes and Harissa-Smoked Carrots.

For the first time, Silver and Sons will also feature a selection of pre-prepared carryout and deli items. Guests can stock up on nightly specials available Thursday through Sunday, a variety of bottled drinks, and a freezer section that includes comforting options such as Chili, Matzo Ball Soup, Chicken Pot Pie, Shepherd's Pie, Cookie Dough, Rugelach Dough, and Take-and-Bake Bourekas.

Guests looking to add smoke and fire to their wardrobes can also browse branded shirts and hats alongside barbecue sauces and spice blends.

Silver's famed challah bread will be joined by a new sweet item in the form of chocolate babka buns on the weekends.

The wood in Silver's smokers is oak and hickory harvested in Virginia, much of which they cut themselves.

About Silver and Sons BBQ

Silver and Sons BBQ was founded as a backyard barbecue company in November 2020 by Chef Jarrad Silver, a decorated D.C.-area chef who had previously helmed the kitchen at Washington mainstay Birch and Barley. In March 2022, Silver expanded his small catering operation with the launch of Silver and Sons Barbecue food truck. A second truck followed, as did the expansion of his catering operation.

Silver and his team have a commissary kitchen in Rockville, which allowed Silver to expand his catering and food truck operations last summer. With the help of the satellite kitchen, the Westbard Square restaurant will offer a menu that is at least 20 percent larger than that currently offered at Silver’s two food trucks.
