BETHESDA, MD — Westwood Pet Center, an independent, family-owned pet supplies store, has reopened in a new location in Bethesda — the Shops at Sumner Place.

The store served the community for more than 40 years under founder David Griffin. The original store, located in the Westwood Shopping Center, closed in June 2021 upon David’s retirement.

Soon after, his daughter, Anna Griffin, decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and opened the new version of the store on Aug. 20, stocking the store with a variety of new supplies while maintaining the nostalgia and charm of the original location.

Upon entering the space, shoppers are greeted by a color-coordinated display of leashes on the right. Shoppers will then find animal sweaters, scratching posts, grooming resources and toys. The back wall is dedicated to selections of pet food, including an interactive bone bar and 40-inch freezers for raw food storage.

Inspired by kids' toy bins, the bone bar is easily accessible for both dogs and people, giving furry friends a fun way to interact with the space and select treats to bring home.
