Application Period for Sheriff's Scholarship For Graduating Seniors Now Open
Three scholarships are available to Prince George's County graduating seniors that have been accepted into college.

UPPER MARLBORO, Maryland -- The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff announced that the application period for the sixth annual Melvin C. High Scholarship program is now open.
Each year, the Sheriff awards three scholarships to "commendable Prince George's County high-school graduating seniors" in the amount of $1,000 each.
The scholarships can be used toward the cost of college tuition, fees or books.

To qualify to receive one of the three scholarships, a student must:
• Have been accepted for admission to an accredited college or university,
• Be involved in community service or extracurricular school activities,
• Have his or her G.P.A. documented by the school's guidance counselor,
• Provide a letter of recommendation from a member of the school's faculty, and
• Complete a one-page essay answering the question: “How will a college education change your life and your future?”

Submitted applications are reviewed by an Academic Committee and the members of the Scholarship Selection Committee, who will select the 2017 recipients.
Once the awardees are announced, the Office of the Sheriff will make the award available to the winners' college or university at their time of registration.
Applications are available to be picked up from the guidance counselor's office of any county high school as of March 31. Applications can also be downloaded online.
Applications will be accepted from March 31 through May 5. Submissions should be mailed to the Office of the Sheriff, 5303 Chrysler Way, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772, with a postmark of no later than May 5.
