BOWIE, MD— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Amanda Lloyd who nominated Anita Lloyd of Bowie.

What makes your mom extra special?

Anita is one of the most giving people you would want to know. A deaconess at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, she feeds the homeless, watches her granddaughter five days a week and takes her brother for treatment three days a week. She is in two ministries and she makes sure her family has a meal every day. She is just a wonderful mother to her kids, and she makes everyone around her feel wanted.

Why do you feel your mom deserves the spotlight?

She is extremely sensitive to everyone else’s needs, not thinking of herself.

Happy Mother's Day to Anita Lloyd, and thank you for all you do!
