Bowie Mom Goes The Extra Mile For Son, Family & Friends

BOWIE, MD— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Gloria Gaddy who nominated Candice Carter of Bowie.

What makes your Mom extra special?

Candice, affectionately known as "Candii," is the mother of a freshman in college. She works in the health field and survived during the pandemic without a single complaint. She is a partner to her aging mother and encourages her close friends in a deep spiritual sister circle that guides them even in loss of their spouse and unexpected loved ones. There is not a day that goes by she isn't concerned about her son's future by assisting him, but giving him space to make good decisions, however, when he doesn't she allows him to recover so he is successful. Candii is educated as well as well-seasoned in wisdom through her experience in life lessons ... Just to say, she is beautiful outside as well as inside. The best drum mom ever, [she] saw to it her son received a full scholarship to Bowie State, kept him active from from an infant with ice skating lessons, Boy Scouts, Sunday school, community service! Oh, not to forget his honoring his grandparents and the elderly. Candii is godmother to many and never forgets to give and encourage them while attending their special events, even when she has to travel as far as Canada to support them. Wow! I could go on and on, but to conclude she is a homemaker, gardener and lover of animals, she is a doctor without the white coat! She deserves the best honor.

Why do you feel your Mom deserves the spotlight?

Because she is humble and needs the encouragement!
