Bowiefest 2025 Canceled Due To Forecast Stormy Weather

City officials have canceled Bowiefest 2025 due to the forecasted weather for Saturday that includes rain and thunderstorms.

BOWIE, MD — Due to rain and thunderstorms in Saturday's forecast, Bowiefest 2025 has been canceled.

The city announced the cancellation Friday and added that there won't be a rain date.

Bowiefest is held annually at Allen Pond Park with three stages of entertainment, from dance to cheer to bands and more. There are numerous food vendors along with children's entertainment, information booths and more.

Storms and rain will start to move into Maryland on Friday afternoon, setting up the state for a wet weekend filled with thunder and multiple rounds of showers, according to the latest forecasts. A slow-moving cold front enters the state on Friday and is expected to spawn showers and thunderstorms, particularly west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the National Weather Service said in its latest forecast. Thunderstorm activity is expected to spread east and reach the Baltimore area by evening. A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for portions of Baltimore, Montgomery, Howard, Harford, Carroll, Frederick and Washington counties in Maryland.

"An isolated severe thunderstorm or two is possible this afternoon into early this evening for areas west of Route 15," the NWS said.

On Saturday, numerous showers and some thunderstorms are expected to move through the region between about 4 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Capital Weather Gang said in its latest forecast. Showers will be spotty through the evening hours. Rain chances continue through Sunday.

"It will probably be dry more often than not, but we can’t rule out showers or thundershowers — possibly with heavy downpours — in the morning or afternoon," the Capital Weather Gang said.

The next event for residents will be Juneteenth Jubilee Festival June 14 at Allen Pond Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will the Sip and Taste Square offering food and beverages; the Market Place with vendors; Artist Avenue featuring paintings, sculptures, books, dance and more; Be Healthy Way with physical and mental health vendors; College and Divine Nine Row where there will be colleges, sororities, fraternities, social and civic organizations; and the Kid's Zone with kid-friendly sports, games and activities.
