Bowie's Tyler Cited As Star Student: Here’s Why
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Bowie.

BOWIE, MD — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Charlie Mae Partridge who nominated Tyler of Bowie. Below is what she wrote in her submission.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
He is an exemplary young man, good role model for his younger brother Jordan and others, a good student and citizen in our community. Tyler recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America. He wanted to give back to his elementary school, Kingsford Elementary, so he constructed and built a rolling library case which he donated to the school with books. In January he was awarded a Posse Scholarship, after a very competitive process and will attend Lafayette University as a mechanical engineer major in the fall. Additionally he raised money for the Leukemia and Light the Night Foundation as a leader in the National Honor Society. He has played soccer for Maryland United for the past 4 years and contributed the skills and knowledge he developed to help his high school soccer team at CMIT HS in Upper Marlboro. Tyler is a well rounded and polite young man. He is a member who has both benefitted from and contributed to involvements in the Kappa League of DC, Top Teens of Prince George's County, and Jack and Jill National Harbor chapter.
