Fire Breaks Out In Laurel Townhouse Basement

An early morning fire sparked in the basement of a Laurel townhouse. Firefighters from Howard County and Prince George's County responded.

A fire broke out early Friday morning at a townhouse in Laurel. Crews from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services quickly gained control of the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjacent townhomes.

LAUREL, MD — Early Friday morning, a fire broke out at a townhome in Laurel.

Howard County firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the fire, located in the 9700 block of Whiskey Run, around 1:15 a.m.

The fire started in the basement of the townhome and was quickly brought under control without spreading to adjacent townhouses, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

The residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department emergency workers were called to assist. There were no fire department injuries reported, officials reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Maryland State Office of the Fire Marshal.
