Free Annual Turkey Trot 5K Returns To College Park

Adults, kids age 4 and older, dogs on a leash and people with strollers are invited to walk or run in the free annual Turkey Trot 5K.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The annual Turkey Trot 5K returns this holiday season to College Park.

Runners, walkers, people with strollers, kids ages 4 and older plus one leashed dog per person can participate in the free Thanksgiving morning tradition hosted by College Park parkrun/parkwalk, the city of College Park, and PG Parks and Recreation.

The event starts at 9 a.m. at Acredale Community Park located at 4289 Metzerott Road. The route winds along the Paint Branch Trail.

Anyone interested in joining needs to register for a parkrun barcode at parkrun.us/collegepark. Print the barcode or bring it on a phone the day of the event.

"The 5K course is USATF certified, if you care about that kind of thing," organizers said. "There are no medals, T-shirts, prizes or other swag. It’s all about the healthy community. But as a first timer, you do get to strike the Golden Gong."

Participants will be emailed their timed results yet that day and free photos where applicable. Anyone interested in celebrating afterward can pop by Bagels 'n Grinds in College Park for a community coffee and brunch.
