Shoe Store Holds Grand Opening For New Site In Prince George's Mall

HYATTSVILLE, MD — Retailer DTLR will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration Saturday at its newest Maryland location at the Mall at Prince George's. The event Aug. 2 will include a live DJ, a photo booth, product giveaways throughout the day and an interactive Sneaker Lab.

New Balance will host a hands-on customization station that coincides with the release of the 530 “Silver Azure” kids shoe Saturday, too.

The fun kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday at DTLR's new location within the mall that spans a spacious 10,000-square-foot site, company officials told Patch. DTLR CEO Todd Kirssin and Senior Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement Antonio Gray will be on hand for the ribbon cutting and grand opening.

"DTLR has been at the Mall at Prince George’s but we are moving to a larger space that allows us to showcase more products and better engage with our customers," Kirssin told Patch.

During the Sneaker Lab event, children ages 5-13 can tap into their creativity at stations for laces, sock customization and shoelery. Shoes will need to be purchased onsite for event participation, company officials said.

"As they gear up for the new school year, we want every child to walk in feeling confident, stylish and comfortable with a shoe that feels uniquely theirs," Gray told Patch.

DTLR has more than 420 stores spanning 26 states, including 32 in Maryland. They are listed below. The new DTLR is located at 3500 East-West Highway in Hyattsville. The new store will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
