Heat Advisory Prompts PGCPS To Cancel After School Activities, Sports Wednesday

A heat advisory through 7 p.m. Wednesday has led PGCPS officials to cancel all after school activities and sports practices.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Due to a heat advisory for Wednesday, all athletics and after school activities are canceled for Wednesday, officials with Prince George's County Public Schools announced.

A heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for Aug. 28 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Heat indices are expected to reach up to 106 degrees.

The Maryland Department of the Environment also has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Wednesday. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly.
