22-Year-Old Charged In His Mother's Death

A 22-year-old Laurel man has been charged in connection to his mother's death after the pair argued in their home, police say.

LAUREL, MD — A 22-year-old man has been charged in the death of his 44-year-old mother in their Laurel home.

On Dec. 27 around 11:50 p.m., Prince George's Police were asked to conduct a welfare check at a home in the 8100 block of Gorman Avenue. Officers found Maria Hernandez-Gonzalez with trauma. Officers rendered first aid to the victim, but she died at the home. Officers found her son, Fredy Grijalva-Hernandez, also at the home and arrested him without incident, according to police.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Grijalva-Hernandez murdered his mother during an argument.

Grijalva-Hernandez has been charged with first-degree murder and related charges. He remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
