Hundreds Of Child Porn Images Kept By Teacher Who Sexted With Child: Police

Police found hundreds of child porn images and a bag with children's underwear during their search of an elementary teacher's home.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — After searching elementary school teacher Mark Cobb's apartment, Prince George's Police say they found a bag with several pairs of children's underwear and hundreds of files of child pornography, WUSA9 reports. Police ask that additional victims contact them.

On Aug. 25, Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit detectives were notified of the situation between 44-year-old Cobb of Bowie and a former student who is younger than 10 years old. Cobb teaches at Cooper Lane Elementary School in Landover Hills. The preliminary investigation indicates Cobb was texting the victim between June 2023 and August 2024. During that time, the suspect asked for and received sexually inappropriate photos of the victim.

Cobb waived his bond hearing Wednesday afternoon. He will stay in jail and be held without bond. Cobb faces 11 charges, including nine misdemeanors for possessing child pornography and two felony charges of sex abuse of a minor. The felony charges alone could carry up to 25 years in prison if he is convicted.

“I just can’t imagine how sick a person has to be to have this type of conversation, a very sexually explicit conversation, with a 9-year-old ... it’s outrageous," Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy said during a press conference. "The facts of every case are heartbreaking. This one is beyond what anyone could imagine, but our job is to get justice and that’s what we’re going to do. These are individuals who are in positions of trust, so she had a right to trust her teacher. Those teachers and those who are preying upon children, they are grooming children for their own, personal, sick desires."

The State's Attorney's Office asks that any other victims reach out to Prince George's County Police at 301-772-4930.
