Hyattsville Suspect In Landover Fatal Shooting Arrested In D.C., Charged With Murder

A Hyattsville man has been arrested in D.C. in connection to a fatal shooting in Landover. He faces murder charges, police say.

LANDOVER, MD — The suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Jakel Stone of Bowie Aug. 31 has been arrested, police say.

On Aug. 31 around 7:40 p.m., Prince George's Police were called to the 6900 block of Hawthorne Street in Landover for a report of a shooting. Officers found Stone in a parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later. The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect, 23-year-old Lawrence Fox Jr. of Hyattsville, shot Stone during a dispute.

On Tuesday, the PGPD’s Fugitive Unit, with the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, located Fox and took him into custody in Washington, D.C. Fox has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges.

According to Stone's family, he leaves behind a 14-year-old son. A GoFundMehas been set up to help with burial costs and to support his son, according to the family.
