Two neighbors tried to enter the home to help the victims, but they were driven back by heat and smoke, Chief Spokesperson of Prince George's County Fire & EMS Mark Brady said.
The fire was extinguished in 12 minutes, Brady said. Fire loss is estimated at $80,000. There were no working smoking alarms located in the house.
Any family that is in need of a working smoke alarm and cannot afford to purchase or install one themselves is encouraged to call 311. A firefighter will visit your home and install one in your home free of charge, Brady said.
