New Speed Camera Fines In Effect In Bowie

New speed camera fines have taken effect in Bowie to sync up with the state law's fine structure.

BOWIE, MD — New speed camera fines take effect Wednesday in Bowie so that the fine structure for violators matches recently enacted state law.

The Maryland General Assembly approved the state law, which took effect Oct. 1. The new speed fines in Bowie take effect Nov. 19.

The revised fine structure follows the tiers below:

  • If the citation states that the driver of the motor vehicle exceeded the speed limit by between 12 and 15 miles per hour, inclusive, $40.
  • If the citation states that the driver of the motor vehicle exceeded the speed limit by between 16 and 19 miles per hour, inclusive, $70.
  • If the citation states that the driver of the motor vehicle exceeded the speed limit by between 20 and 29 miles per hour, inclusive, $120.
  • If the citation states that the driver of the motor vehicle exceeded the speed limit by between 30 and 39 miles per hour, inclusive, $230; and
  • If the citation states that the driver of the motor vehicle exceeded the speed limit by 40 miles per hour or more, $425.
