Overnight Fire Kills 1 In Prince George's County

A person died in an overnight fire in Hillcrest Heights, officials said. Firefighters found "excessive storage conditions" in the home.

HILLCREST HEIGHTS, MD — A person died in an overnight fire in Hillcrest Heights, officials said. (Subscribe to Bowie Patch for realtime news alerts and daily newsletters.)

Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1900 block of Callaway St. just after 2 a.m. Friday. Responding units found a one-story home with fire showing from the basement, Assistant Fire Chief Alan C. Doubleday said.

According to Doubleday, firefighters located one deceased person during a detailed search of the home. The identity of this person has not yet been released.

Officials said firefighters found "excessive storage conditions" throughout the home. The home partially collapsed as the fire was extinguished, Doubleday said. Fire loss is estimated at $110,000.

Fire Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
