PG County Schools Update: Here's When They'll Open Tuesday

Prince George's County has announced when you can expect schools to open Tuesday.

UPDATE: PG County Schools have sent out this notice: "All after school and evening activities, including Evening High School and Board of Education meetings, are cancelled. All PGCPS Before and After School Extended Learning Programs and vendor managed program sites are closing at 4pm today."

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- Prince George's County Schools will open two hours late on Tuesday as crews continue to dig out of the snowy deluge we got over the weekend.

After getting the day off on Monday, schools will be back in action on Tuesday, but not without a delay -- likely over concerns about how overnight freezing of melting snow would affect area roads.

The county added in a statement:

  • EMERGENCY PERSONNEL must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave.
  • There will be no work-study transportation. (Those students should not report to school.)
  • There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education Programs, or half-day PreK.
  • Any other school program requiring transportation prior to 12 noon will NOT have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center, JA Finance Park, and William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt)
  • All field trips will be cancelled.
  • Food Services will offer breakfast.
  • We will re-evaluate at 6:30 a.m.

School officials will also keep an eye on a possible winter storm this weekend. Monday, Jan. 21 is Martin Luther King day and schools will be out anyway.
