PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — When Edward Matthews, his son and nephew docked their boat in Washington, D.C.'s Navy Yard Saturday to go out to eat there, they never expected to return to a vandalized boat and a missing puppy.

The Prince George's County family had securely left their 3-month-old Cane Corso puppy locked in the cabin of the boat while they were docked and dining out.

But around 9 p.m., the family returned from dinner and discovered the boat had been broken into. And, Pepper the puppy was gone, according to the Metropolitan Police Department in DC.

The family put posters up around the neighborhood, reported NBC Washington, and the Metropolitan Police Department published photos of Pepper on its social media platforms.

On Saturday, the person who bought Pepper — not knowing she'd been stolen — realized what had happened and returned her to the Matthews family.
