Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Casey Simons Mullikin, who nominated Bree of Bowie.

What sport does the star student athlete play?

Cheerleading and softball

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Bree is a sophomore at Roosevelt High School in the science and tech program. Since being in second grade, Bree has been in the Tag PGCPS program through middle school (Benjamin Tasker) as well; she has remained within the "highest" TAG classes. She has maintained straight As every quarter, every year. Her grades since middle school have been weighted, so she currently has a 4.20 GPA. While at Benjamin Tasker, while maintaining her grades, she was the only student, male and female, that played sports all three seasons: softball, cheer and soccer, of course until COVID required children to attend school virtually. As a freshman, Bree made the varsity cheerleading squad for both the football season, as well as the basketball season. In the spring of her freshman year, she was the pitcher for the JV team and stayed on the honor roll all year. One of the most important things to mention is less than a month prior to her starting high school, her father was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident. For all of these reasons I have listed, she is truly a stand up student as well as an amazing athlete. I would be honored for our citizens to also witness what an amazing student she is as well as how dedicated to her school work as well as the teams she is a part of.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Mostly that since second grade, she has been in the TAG program and every quarter made the principals honor roll and as a sophomore she currently holds a 4.20 GPA.

Keep up the great work, Bree!
