Trooper Delivers Baby At Crash Scene In PG County

A Maryland State Police trooper responded to a report of a crash, and found a woman in labor.

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- A Maryland State Police trooper who was responding to a crash ended up delivering a baby at the scene, police say.

Trooper Esai Cunningham from the College Park Barack responded to a report of a collision on the outer loop of the Beltway at around 11 p.m. on Sunday in College Park, according to a statement from MSP.

"While on the scene, another vehicle pulled up to the collision location and told Trooper Cunningham that his female passenger was in active labor," the statement reads.

Cunningham called for EMS assistance, but he had already helped the 21-year-old woman deliver a boy by the time medical crews arrived, police say.

Both the mother and newborn were taken to the hospital in Silver Spring, where they are both doing well.
