What Road in Bowie Needs a Speed Bump?
We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

Bowie, MD- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.
While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Bowie. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

- "Stonybrook but because it is an emergency road it would never happen. I watch everyday school buses, cars, etc. speeding as well as looking at their phones."
- "Stonybrook, the road is used a drag strip for cars and motorcycles."
- "None of them. People should just obey the speed limits."
- "Tulip Grove"
- "Beaverdale Lane! Everybody cuts through down our street to avoid that small stretch of Route 3 to get to 450. Even the school buses speed down our street."
- "Mitchellville road, people think it is a speedway."
- "9th street at the end of Lanham Severn Road right as you enter Old Bowie. Speed limit drops from 40 to 30, then 25 for the curve but no one slows down! Several neighbors have lost pets that got out of fences and on to that road."
- "Driftwood!!! People use it to get from Church to Mt. Oak. They overtake and disregard the school busses stopping to drop off and pick up kids."
