Steve Wood, the assistant coach to the Broadneck High School varsity hockey team, was selected for the volunteer of the year award of the Maryland Student Hockey League.
Wood, who has been involved with hockey since he was a child, has coached several ages of hockey teams since becoming involved in coaching. He was nominated for the award by his peers, who wrote letters of recommendation for Wood on why he should be selected.
In one of the letters, Kevin Rooney, the head coach of the hockey team, said Wood has a natural gift in organization.
"His love of the sport is obvious and unwavering; however, his love of creating organizations that run smoothly for all, is his expertise," Rooney wrote.
Steve was given a plaque with his name on it to commemorate the award, and it is on display at the Laurel Gardens Ice House. Check it out next time you're there.
