Broadneck High School graduate Matthew Centrowitz took the top spot in the U.S. Track and Field Championship 1,500 meter race on Saturday.
Centrowitz, 23, edged out Olympic silver medalist Leo Manzano with a finish of 3:45.17. The Register-Guard described the theme of Centrowitz' run as "total domination." He told the publication that he'd set out to win.
“I wanted to dominate this final, and that’s what I set out to do,” said Centrowitz.
Centrowitz was in the international spotlight last summer during the 2013 Summer Olympics in London. In his Olympic debut, the Arnold native placed fourth—narrowly missing a bronze medal in the men's 1,500 meter finals by four-hundredths of a second.
The Baltimore Sun published a photo of Centrowitz crossing the line at this weekend's Track and Field Championships.
