- On Saturday, Aug. 6, Baltimore Police said a 15-year-old girl was shot in the head and killed while playing on her porch in West Baltimore's Edmondson Village. On Sunday, Aug. 7, police suspected a 9-year-old boy accidentally shot Nykayla Strawder while playing with a loaded gun. Police said he will not be criminally charged due to his age. (Baltimore Sun)
- The Farmers' Almanac recently released its extended 2022-2023 winter forecast. According to the almanac, this year Maryland will be "unreasonably cold" and "snowy." The worst month for the state is expected to be January, however, the first bite of winter will come earlier than last year's. (Catonsville Patch)
- A 68-year-old Baltimore County woman won a $25,000 Pick 5 lottery prize based on numbers from her sister's dream. The lucky winner, who is a resident of the Baltimore suburb Cockeysville, has remained anonymous, only identifying herself as "Thankful-Thankful." She won the ticket on a Jul. 29 midday drawing and claimed the prize on Aug. 2. (Fox 6 Now)
