Here are the top three stories in and around Catonsville today:
- The first U.S. Apple Store union has officially formed, and it happened right here in Baltimore County. On Saturday, workers at the nearby Apple Towson Town Center voted to organize into the Coalition of Organized Retail Employees (CORE). The union has also decided to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). "I applaud the courage displayed by CORE members at the Apple store in Towson for achieving this historic victory," IAM international president Robert Martinez Jr. said in a statement. "They made a huge sacrifice for thousands of Apple employees across the nation who had all eyes on this election."(Common Dreams)
- The Baltimore County Public Library is closed today, Jun. 20, in observance of Juneteenth, but there will be plenty of fun events coming up at the Catonsville branch later this week! Tomorrow, Jun. 21, teens and adults are invited to participate in Make Music Day 2022, an international celebration of live music with a performance by bluegrass fiddler Alani Sugar. Then, on Wednesday, adults in the library's book club will gather for an engaging conversation over coffee about their favorite books. Finally, a Family and Friends Story Time session and a Teen Anime Club meeting will be taking place on Thursday the 23rd. Learn more on the library's website. (Baltimore County Public Library)
- Baltimore County Council District 1 candidate Pat Young will be hosting a meet-and-greet in Catonsville on Thursday, Jun. 30. Young is a Catonsville native, Marine veteran, and Maryland State Delegate since 2013. The meet-and-greet offers the opportunity for the community to get to know him and ask questions about his vision for the county if elected. The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 121 Forest Drive. (Catonsville Patch)
