Catonsville Man Capitalizes on 'I Survived Earthquake' T-Shirts

Tony Uzupus hopes people will appreciate the humor in yesterday's events.

Tony Uzupus said he didn't feel the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that shook the East Coast Tuesday afternoon.

The Catonsville resident was in his car running some errands, but when he got back to the office everyone was talking about it.

Uzupus quickly went online, read about what had happened and the lack of major damages or injuries. Remembering the fuss he had overheard earlier, Uzupis got the idea to make a few t-shirts poking fun at the natural disaster.

An hour after finishing the design, Uzupos printed t-shirts with the words 'I survived the Virginia Earthquake' on the front.

Within two hours of the quake, Uzupus had posted his homemade tributes for $16.99 on eBay.

"I thought it would go over well," he said. "I thought I would throw them up and see what happens."

This is Uzupus' first foray into selling t-shirts in large quantities, but he's designed funny shirts for friends.

By this morning, there were several other shirts for sale online with the same theme, but Uzupus said when he checked Tuesday afternoon, he was the first one. So far he has sold about 25 shirts.
