- Two veteran Baltimore County Council members, Councilwoman Cathy Bevins and Councilman Tom Quirk, are not seeking reelection when their terms end in December. In District 1, Catonsville's district, Candidates Paul Dongarra, Pat Young, and Danielle Nicole Singley are running for the Democratic nomination. Al Nalley faces no competition in the Republican primary for District 1. All candidates live in Catonsville, except Singley who lives in Westview Park. (Baltimore Sun)
- Michael Wardian, a 48-year-old from Arlington, ran the entire length of the United States with the goal of finishing in 75 days or less, a "Forrest Gump-style feat." James Hale, a 42-year-old ultra-runner from Catonsville who joined Wardian for the second half of his run on Tuesday, was impressed at the mental fortitude it takes to complete that task. Hale said, "Even most ultra-runners can't do this in a day, at his pace. He’s sort of that superhuman that can just move." (USA Today)
- Gas prices on average in Maryland are not as high as they were a week ago. AAA reported yesterday, Jul. 1, that the average gas price was $4.77 per gallon of regular. Ragina Cooper Ali, spokesperson for AAA in Washington, D.C. and Maryland said, "Nationally, automobile travel is expected to set a new record with 42 million Americans expected to hit the roads this Independence Holiday weekend."
