Only in Catonsville, Hon: Pulling Out Chairs, Tape, Tarps, Rocks to Save a Parade Seat

Oh, and one car backseat.

The first chair was out more than a week before the parade and the numbers have been growing ever since. It's a Catonsville tradition--loved by many, loathed by some.

Like it or hate it, you have to give residents credit for finding creative ways to save their space for Monday's 65th annual Fourth of July parade.

A comfy looking car back seat marked one spot. Other residents made reservations in writing, leaving notes on chairs, at least one a bit threatening. Wink, wink. "Please don't move my chairs or God will get you," it said.

Another message was more polite, perhaps keeping in mind that saving empty seats can sometimes create hard feelings: "Please don't take or move my chairs. If you really feel like you need to move them, please call me to come pick them up, no questions asked."

One hand-made, red, white and blue sign marked a spot and documented that some attendees will have come from as far away as Texas and New Jersey.
