As the sordid details of President Trump's alleged involvement in Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring come into focus we should not forget the sex scandal between former President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern.
Their sexual relationship began in 1995 when Clinton, 49 years old, was the boss of Lewinsky, who was 22 years old. It lasted 18 months.
Clinton ended televised remarks on January 26, 1998, with the later infamous statement: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky."
He later admitted to the relationship with Lewinsky, seemingly justifying it by suggesting oral sex is not an extra-marital sexual act.
To be clear: Clinton, the most powerful man in the world, controlled Lewinsky, his subordinate employee. In the work environment, his sexual overtures to Lewinsky served as a weapon of control and domination.
it is illegal for an employer to use their position of power over an employee to get the employee to engage in a sexual relationship that they would not otherwise choose.
Clinton will forever be remembered for his indescretion. Lewinsky will forever be remembered for her participatory guilt by association.
Incredibly, Clinton today is mentioned in the Epstein files and in flight log travel to Epstein's island where underage girls were raped.
By contrast, Lewinsky is focused on her role as an activist against cyberbullying and public shaming, using her own experiences to advocate for a more compassionate online environment.
