Video: Hillcrest Elementary School Students Launch Rockets

Fourth-graders each made a rocket to send into the air Thursday afternoon with help from NASA.

Hillcrest Elementary School fourth graders launched rockets Thursday afternoon, as part of a space unit in their science curriculum.

Teacher Mike Curry worked with ASRC Research and Technology Solutions (ARTS) employee and Catonsville resident Tom Bagg, who helped organize the event.

ARTS is based out of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.

Each student built their own rocket, which was launched into the sky outside on the school's athletic fields. Students pushed the button to launch, and then chased the rockets down as they hurtled back with the aid of a parachute.

The rockets traveled as high as 400 feet in the air.
