Work Continues on Beltway Under Frederick Road Bridge for Several More Weeks
Travelers may have noticed a shift in the Beltway lanes.

Before work starts on the Frederick Road bridge over the Baltimore Beltway, construction crews must first finish the work below it.
Travelers on the bridge and on Interstate 695 may have noticed a shift in the lanes on both inner and outer loops of the Beltway in the last few months.
While no lanes will be closed to traffic during construction, road shoulders are off limits to make room for construction work, according to David Buck, a spokesman for the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Crews have also been working on the ramps, clearing shrubbery and relocating utilities to prepare for the upcoming renovations of the project.
The next phase of construction will begin in roughly a month, when one sidewalk on the north side of the bridge will be removed. At that time, traffic will shift on the bridge and lanes will go from 12 feet wide to 11 feet wide.

The $13.7 million project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2013.
The 53-year-old bridge will be stretched to accommodate the future widening of the Beltway. An estimated 22,530 vehicles travel on Frederick Road a day.
