Police: Mentally Ill Dump Truck Driver Charged With Attempted Murder of Two Officers

A dump truck driver is charged with two counts of attempted murder. He is accused of intentionally crashing into two police cars, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, two officers were standing next to their marked cruisers in the Woodmore Town Center parking lot in Glenarden. Driver Gene Brandon, Jr., 31, of Aquasco drove the dump truck next to the officers and yelled at them.

When the officers told Brandon to keep moving because he was blocking traffic, he drove off and turned around in the lot, PGPD reports. Brandon began driving the dump truck towards the police cars and the officers had to move out from in between the vehicles.

Brandon allegedly slammed the truck into one cruiser which caused it to hit the other. When the dump truck finally came to a stop on top of one of the cruisers, it had moved them over 50 feet, according to the PGPD.

Police report that Brandon jumped out of the truck and aggressively approached the two officers. He was taken into custody and no injuries were reported.

Investigators reveal that Brandon has a history of mental illness and he told detectives that he has not been taking his prescribed medication, PGPD reports.

Brandon is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of first degree assault. He is being held without bond at the Department of Corrections.

The incident was captured on video and released by the Prince George’s County Police Department.
