Update, April 4:

Capital Comment has more on the emerging partnership between the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the University of Maryland.

“A partnership with the Corcoran would provide our faculty and students with access to its world-class collection,” UMD President Wallace Loh said in a statement. “We could develop together, for example, new courses, joint degrees, and innovation studios in product design and digital arts that involve interdisciplinary teams of artists, engineers, computer scientists, and entrepreneurs."

The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC is likely "join forces" with the University of Maryland pending the approval of the museum's board of trustees, The Washingtonian's Capital Comment blog reports.

Citing "people familiar with the decision," reporter Luke Mullins wrote that the financial and operational details weren't immediately clear.

A spokesman for the gallery told Capital Comment that the details of the plan would be announced after a board of trustees meeting at 4 p.m.

The Corcoran has undergone significant financial and organizational struggles in recent years.
