Roger Alistair Bell, 76, UMd. Astronomy Professor

Roger Alistair Bell, of Ashton, MD died on July 1 from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. He was 76.

Bell was a professor of astronomy at the University of Maryland, teaching there from 1963 until retiring to an emeritus role in 1998. His research focused on the size, composition, and other characteristics of stars.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 19 at the university's West Chapel.
