Shots Fired In College Park: Police Report

Police said shots were in the vicinity of the University of Maryland's campus early Saturday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Police say gunshots were fired by an unknown person in the 8000 block of Baltimore Avenue near Melbourne Place early Saturday morning.

An alert was first sent out to the University of Maryland community at 1:43 a.m.

Police described the suspects in a second update at 2:09 a.m. as two males, one wearing all black and the second wearing a white shirt with khaki pants. They added the suspects were last seen fleeing east on Melbourne Place.

The University of Maryland Police Department and Prince George’s County Police Department are investigating the incident.

As of Tuesday, the investigation revealed "a suspect fired a weapon into the air at approximately 1:25 a.m. No one was hurt," Christina Cotterman, deputy director of the Media Relations Division at the Prince George's County Police Department, said.
