Snow and Ice Removal Required for Safer Sidewalks
A fine will be issued to residents of Prince George's County who do not comply with the snow and ice removal code.

The 2 below temperature has caused some of Tuesday’s snowfall to turn into ice.
Prince George’s County requires that residents and business owners remove snow and ice from their respective properties. The county’s code says that citizens are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks within 48 hours after the snow has fallen or ice has formed.
Residents are urged to remove the snow and ice before those 48 hours in order to reduce buildup.

Inspectors will survey areas for snow and ice throughout Prince George’s County. Those with trouble spots will receive a door hanger as a reminder to clear the sidewalks and inspectors will return the following day. Violators will receive a $100 fine if the snow and ice has still not been removed. The area will be checked every 24 hours and an additional $100 fine will be added for every day it remains.
Local middle and high school students are available to help with removal as community service hours for graduation.
