Spring Break's Silver Lining

“College Park’s kind of dead for the most part. There’s not a lot of people out,” Meaghan, waitress and day bartender at said, bemoaning how tips go down during spring break. ”It’s a little bit annoying,” she admitted, “If I’m here, I’d rather be making money.”

The dearth of students does have a flip side. It’s prime time to pick up food with less wait or to sit down at places where tables are normally at a premium. Anna Valdivia, General Manager at College Park’s said it’s definitely a good week to take advantage of shorter lines.

And it might be one of the best times to sit down at instead of grabbing your caffeine fix and running. Albeit running and coffee do go well together.

But University of Maryland coeds are not the only students in town. The younger variety are still around and they can enjoy The College Park Scout Wings Day this Saturday, March 26. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are invited to join in the activities, exploring aviation history and the science of flight. Pre-registration is required and scouts are signing up now. But as of Monday, March 21, there’s still room for more, said Administrative Assistant Anna Moore.

So while the big kids are away, the younger ones can still play – and some of the town folk can enjoy short lines and a seat at the table.
