Week in Review: Campus Drive, Ledo Restaurant, and the Problem of the Best Buy Wedge
A look at the notable events from the week of Aug. 8 - Aug. 15.
The week began with a debate between Cherry Hill residents and the developer of the new Best Buy, scheduled to open in College Park Marketplace in September. Best Buy's representatives say a large blue wedge typically accompanies the signage of most Best Buys around the country, but some residents consider it an eyesore.
The Strategic Action Plan for 2011 and the Strategic Plan for 2010-2015 were passed during Tuesday night's City Council meeting. Both plans are designed to improve the quality of College Park in various capacities, such as taking steps toward rebuilding Route 1, and buttressing security in neighborhoods.
On the campus side of things, University of Maryland re-opened Campus Drive on Saturday after two months of restricted vehicle access. UMD's director of transportation said the temporary closure revealed some useful information, and that another test-closure will likely occur again sometime later this year.
