Attend 'Know Before You Owe – A Student Loan Forum, Resource Fair'

From Howard County Community Resources and Services: Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman has announced that the County’s Office of Consumer Protection, Consumer Advisory Board and Howard Community College will co-host “Know Before You Owe – A Student Loan Forum and Resource Fair” on Wednesday, January 18 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The event will be held in Room 400 of the Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall at Howard Community College, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia. The public can also participate in the event via webcast.

The Student Loan Forum will include Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, who will offer opening remarks about the importance of planning now for your child’s higher education. It will also feature a panel discussion with representatives from Howard Community College, the Maryland Higher Education Commission, Maryland CASH, Central Scholarships and the Maryland Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.

Panelists will offer guidance for prospective students and families to make informed decisions on: how to finance higher education; shop for student loans; manage their money; save money on needed supplies and avoid consumer scams surrounding higher education. Before and after the panel discussion and question and answer period, presenters and representatives from additional organizations will be on hand to provide written materials and answer questions one-on-one.
