Howard County Cemetery Preservation Advisory Board Members Wanted

HOWARD COUNTY, MD ā Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is currently seeking applicants interested in serving on the Cemetery Preservation Advisory Board. The deadline to apply is Thursday, Sept. 1.
"The Cemetery Preservation Advisory Board serves an important role in ensuring that as our world continues to change, we are honoring and preserving our historic cemeteries. We are incredibly thankful to individuals who serve on the commission today and look forward to welcoming new members in the near future," Ball said.
Comprised of seven members, at least five of whom are Howard County residents, the boardās responsibilities include:

- Reviewing and providing advisory comments on subdivision and site development plans that are on or adjacent to a cemetery on the Countyās Cemetery Inventory;
- Reviewing newly discovered cemeteries for County adoption;
- Providing advice on historical cemetery resources;
- May conduct property site visits involving cemetery inventories;
- Advise and administer cemetery outreach and grants.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be: a professional in or a member of the funeral-cemetery business, development-building industry or religious community, or have special interest, knowledge or training in fields such as history, architecture, preservation, archeology or genealogy and have a demonstrated interest in the preservation of historic cemeteries, and be able to attend the Boardās meetings held the second Tuesday of every other month at 10:00 a.m. at the George Howard Building, 3430 Courthouse Drive in Ellicott City.
Applicants should send a resume and brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the Commission to Kimberly Pruim, either by email to kpruim@howardcountymd.gov or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for approval and then to the County Council for confirmation.
