HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Alexandra McDonnell who nominated Margaret, a kindergartener from Columbia.

How do you know the star local student?

She's my daughter

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Maggie is a star because she is always helping others. She helps assist children in her class that are going through tough times or need a friend. She helps students with learning impairments and ESOL students who don't speak English with their work and help them to feel comfortable in the classroom. She is among the most caring, kind and empathetic people I know. She participates in ballet, Girl Scouts, swim lessons and religious ed in her free time, and is a straight-A student.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

When she grows up, Maggie wants to be a veterinarian so she can help sick cats and dogs. She has one cat named Pepper and a betta fish named Mr. Wiggles.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Margaret!
