Lane Closure Required For Ellicott City Sidewalk Installation Project Starting Monday
Drivers should make note of a sidewalk installation project that starts Monday in Ellicott City and requires a lane closure.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A construction project to install 600 linear feet of sidewalk along eastbound U.S. 40 from Rogers Avenue to 8659 Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City will start Monday. The project will require a lane closure for the duration of the project.
Weather permitting, the project should wrap up by late August 2024.
As part of the county’s pedestrian master plan called WalkHoward, the project is designed to improve connectivity along Ellicott City’s U.S. 40 corridor.

Signs will be posted in the project area to alert drivers of the project and temporary closure of the U.S. 40 eastbound right turn lane to Rogers Avenue during work hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Sidewalks create neighborhood connections and provide our residents safe and healthy transportation options. To help us expand multimodal transportation in Howard County, including in our Ellicott City community, my fiscal year 2025 capital budget included $14.7 million in county funding for sidewalks, bike lanes, pathways and other Complete Streets infrastructure that makes projects like this possible," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
