Lane Closures Expected During Montgomery Road Sidewalk Construction Project
Temporary lane closures will be expected as work continues on a construction project establishing a sidewalk along Montgomery Road.
ELKRIDGE, MD — A sidewalk project that affects traffic with temporary lane closures started this week. Weather permitting, the project should wrap up by late August.
Sidewalk will be installed along the south side of Montgomery Road near Steepridge Drive, connecting Steepridge Drive to the Lawyers Hill apartment complex. The project will connect walk zones from the west Elkridge corridor to the US 1 corridor. The project also will include the installation of a storm drain infrastructure in the new curb lane and the roadway will be restriped to include an eastbound bike lane.
The project will create a safe connection for multifamily homes located south of Montgomery Road to Elkridge Elementary School and Elkridge Landing Middle School, expanding those walk zones and providing safe access to recreational features on school property, officials say.

"To help us expand multimodal transportation in Howard County, including in our Elkridge community, my fiscal year 2025 capital budget includes $14.7 million in county funding for sidewalks, bike lanes, pathways and other Complete Streets infrastructure that makes projects like this possible," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
Flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic, since the east-bound travel lane will be closed for short periods of time throughout the project during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
